At a glance
Slack Green: a cloud version that runs on its servers and a command-line version you run yourself on your own computer or server ($79 one-time); schedules for work hours, custom hours or 24/7; its sign-up page says free, and cloud prices were not listed on its homepage when we checked; covers Slack.
OnlineHours: cloud only, Slack, ClickUp and Microsoft Teams in one account, up to six time blocks per app, timed Slack status, from $3.49 a month with a 7-day trial for one app.
When to choose which
If you want to run the tool on your own always-on machine, Slack Green’s self-hosted option is built for that, and its $79 one-time price means no subscription. A free software mouse jiggler is the other option on an always-on machine, and it covers every app on it.
If you also use ClickUp or Teams, or want a timed Slack status so colleagues see why you are slower to reply, OnlineHours covers that in one place.

Switching to OnlineHours
Stop Slack Green first, so two tools are not changing your Slack presence at the same time. Then add the free OnlineHours Connector to Chrome, open Slack in a Chrome tab, create a connection code and paste it into Apps on your OnlineHours dashboard.
The connection starts paused. Set your hours, add a Slack status if you want one, and switch it on. The 7-day trial for one app needs no card, and nothing is charged automatically when it ends.
Keep your status on your hours, laptop closed
OnlineHours sets Slack, Teams or ClickUp to online from its servers during the hours you choose, and stops outside them.
Slack Green’s self-hosted tool costs once and suits an always-on machine. OnlineHours fits when you want nothing to run yourself, plus Teams or ClickUp.
One app, no card. Nothing is charged when it ends.
Common questions
Can I run Slack Green and OnlineHours together?
It is better not to. Two tools setting your Slack presence can work against each other; stop one before you start the other.
Does OnlineHours have a self-hosted version?
No. It runs on OnlineHours servers so your laptop can be closed.
