How do I turn on the green dot in ClickUp?
The green dot comes from the Who’s Online ClickApp. In ClickUp’s App Center, find it under Collaboration or All ClickApps and turn it on. ClickUp describes it simply: it shows who is online with a green dot on their avatar.
If you cannot change ClickApps in your workspace, ask the person who manages the workspace. No tool can show a green dot in a workspace where the indicator is switched off.
Online dot versus status
Your status is the text and emoji on your profile, such as “Gym” or an out-of-office note. ClickUp lets you choose a ready-made status or write your own, remove it after a set time, mark yourself out of office and mute notifications until you clear it.
The online dot is about presence, not about what you wrote. A status does not make you appear online, and appearing online does not set a status. Decide which one you want to change before testing anything. Slack splits them the same way: see what Slack’s green dot means.
Why does ClickUp show me offline?
In practice ClickUp shows you online while you have it open and in use. Close the tab, let the computer sleep or lose the connection, and teammates soon stop seeing the dot. ClickUp does not publish how long it waits; the away timers of other apps are listed side by side.
Keeping a tab open and the computer awake is the usual workaround. It ties your status to your laptop, so it ends when you close the lid; a mouse jiggler has the same limit.
How to stay online in ClickUp with your laptop closed
